Detroit Red Wings win 3-2 against the New York Rangers to keep in touch with the league leaders
The second game of Tuesday was played at the Joe Louis Arena, home of the Detroit Red Wings as they were up against the New York Rangers. This was the 797th game of the season which was attended by a big crowd. Though there were a lot of chances
throughout the match but there weren’t as many goals. Amazingly the game was dominated by the New York Rangers when it came to goal attempts. Even then it was Detroit Red Wings who won the game 3-2 in the end.
Jiri Hudler of the Detroit Red Wings was named the star selection of the match for his important goal that put the Red Wings in the lead.
Detroit Red Wings made a decent start to the game which saw them displaying some excellent passing and shooting abilities. Through there were some rough patches for them early on but they got the shots on target from the very second the match started.
There were several occasions early on where Detroit Red Wings got easy chances but they failed to capitalize. Shots after shots were missed and some were stopped by the goal keeper. The New York Rangers also grew in confidence with the passage of time and
dominated the game thereafter.
They bombarded shots on goal as well but unfortunately couldn’t score either as the period ended with the scores deadlocked on 0-0 with Rangers making 13 goal attempts while Red Wings made 9 goal attempts.
The second period of the game saw the home team start off on a high note. Red Wings set the home crowd wild as they opened their account in the 3rd minute to get into the lead. The goal was scored by Pavel Datsyuk from a brilliant well placed
flick shot. Both teams piled up shots after shots and displayed some excellent shooting and passing abilities.
The puck was seen going up and down the pitch as a result of regular counter attacks. Not only this, both teams fired shots on goal frequently from everywhere on the pitch. The period didn’t see any further goals and ended with the Red Wings leading 1-0
as the period ended. During the period, Red Wings made 21 goal attempts while Rangers made 16 goal attempts.
The final period was entertaining than expected as quite a few goals were scored during the final 20 minutes of play. New York Ranger successfully levelled the scores with a goal scored by Derek Stephan in the 4th minute.
However, Detroit bagged a goal immediately after this in the very next minute through Jiri Hudler to get back in the lead. Both teams made attacks and had a share of the chances. A goal was surely on our way and was scored by Detroit Red Wings who scored
through Drew Miller from a brilliant backhand shot in the 15th minute.
Though New York Rangers scored through Brandon Dubinsky in the very next minute but this was about all that happened in the final period. The match was won by Detroit Red Wings 3-2 in the end as they made 5 goal attempts and the Rangers made 18 goal attempts
in the final period.
