Detroit Red Wings win 4-2 against the Boston Bruins
The first game of Sunday was hosted by the Detroit Red Wings as they were up against the Boston Bruins. Two day ago these both met and the result was Red Wings winning the game 6-1. Today the game was a little tough but still Red Wings won the game 4-2 in
the end.
The game was played at the Louis Arena in front of a capacity crowd and was the 842nd game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series. Though Boston led at the end of the first period, Red Wings managed to find their way back into the game to win
it in the end. Todd Bertuzzi, winger of the Red Wings was named the star selection of the game with his two goals during the game.
Bruins were aware that if they needed to come up with a better performance than their last game then they would have to score early. Bruins started with a lot of confidence and their passing and shooting were both brilliant at the start of the proceedings.
There were several chances early on from which the Bruins capitalized and took the lead with a goal in the 2nd minute.
The goal was scored by Tyler Seguin from a well place flick shot. However, the lead didn’t last long as Todd Bertuzzi’s goal in the 7th minute through a superb backhand shot levelled the teams. Bruins with their confidence oozing successfully
took the lead once again in the 13th minute with Brad Marchand scoring from a simple tip in shot during power play.
The period saw both teams making a few goal attempts but they failed to capitalize and the period ended with the Red Wings leading 2-1. During the period Red Wings made 10 goal attempts while the Bruins made 9 goal attempts.
The second period started off with the Detroit Red Wings dominating the proceedings from the start till the very end of the period. There were several scoring chances for the Red Wings but their success rate of conversion wasn’t very good.
Though Red Wings scored two goals during the period but there could have been a lot more. The first goal of the period which put the teams on level terms was scored by Pavel Datsyuk in the 4th minute from a decent strike. Red Wings continued to
pile pressure until they finally got into the lead in the 13th minute with Kris Draper scoring.
Bruins came up with the occasional shots on goal but they weren’t able to find the back of the net. The period ended with the Red Wings leading 3-2. During the 20 minutes of play Red Wings made 19 goal attempts while the Bruins made just 6 goal attempts.
The final period of the game was thick on chances but both teams managed to get past the defence occasionally. There were very less scoring chances if we compare the period with the previous ones. The one and only goal of the period was scored by Todd Bertuzzi
who bagged his second goal in the 14th minute to seal the win for the Red Wings.
The Red Wings won the game 4-2 in the end with Bruins making 10 goal attempts while Red Wings made 7 goal attempts.
