Detroit Red Wings wins 2-0 against the Columbus Blue Jackets

The second game on Thursday was played at the Joe Louis Arena as Detroit Red Wings hosted Columbus Blue Jackets.
The game was a must win for Blue Jackets whose hopes of getting into the playoffs were getting slim by each game it lost.
On the other hand, Red Wings was looking to clinch the second position in the Western Conference.
The game started off in a slow manner but eventually caught pace. Red Wings was very strong offensively and attacked every now and then. Red Wings finally managed to score twice during the course of the period to double their lead.
The second and third period saw both teams coming up with quite a few shots on goal but they weren’t able to find the back of the net.
As a result, the Red Wings won the game 2-0.
Joey McDonald, goalkeeper of Red Wings, was named the star of the game as he made 37 saves during the course of the game.
Red Wings made a decent start to the game and they quickly capitalized from the start and scored to get into the lead. The goal was scored by Drew Miller from a well placed flick shot.
Both teams managed to come up with shots on goal every now and then.
However, it was the Red Wings who scored once again in the 12th minute to double their advantage.
The goal was scored by Valtteri Flipulla from a well placed flick shot during power play.
Both teams kept on piling shots but they were unable to find the back of the net. The period didn’t see any further goals and ended with the Red Wings leading 2-0. During the course of the period, the Blue Jackets made 14 shots on goal while the Red Wings
made 8 shots on goal.
The second period saw both teams coming up with shots every now and then. Their passing and shooting was good but the defence of both teams did an excellent job in restricting the offence to long range shooting only.
There were shots on goal from everywhere on ice but no goals were scored as the period ended with the Red Wings leading 2-0. During the course of the period, the Red Wings made 11 shots on goal while the Blue Jackets made 10 shots on goal.
The final period again saw quite a few shots on goal by both teams as the Blues Jackets made 13 shots on goal while the Red Wings came up with 11 shots on goal.
However, it was the Red Wings who won the game 2-0 in the end. This completed a shutout performance by the Red Wings and further cementing their position as the second placed team in the Western Conference as the Vancouver Canucks have already clinched the
Conference.
