Detroit Red Wings wins 3-2 against Washington Capitals at home in an intense matchup
The second game of Wednesday was played at the Joe Louis Arena as the home team, Detroit Red Wings, was up against Washington Capitals.
Both the teams are in the playoff cut but needed to score points in order to assure themselves a spot in the playoffs, given the heated up things in the Conferences in the playoff’s race.
Though there were shots early on, none of them found the back of the net.
With the passage of time, the attacks increased which resulted in Red Wings scoring to get into the lead.
Capitals levelled the scores but Red Wings scored once again to lead at the end of the period.
Capitals scored again in the second period which also proved to be the lone goal and levelled the scores.
Red Wings managed to score the lone goal of the final period to win the game by 3-2 in the end.
Henrik Zetterberg of Red Wings was named the star of the game as he scored two goals during the game.
Both teams made a decent start to the game which saw the teams increasing on the offensive plays which resulted in them coming across shots on goal. Red Wings were the first to score and take the lead through Henrik Zetterberg.
Capitals weren’t far behind as they came up with some decent pieces of play which saw them scoring in the same minute through John Carlson’s powerful strike to level the scores.
Both teams continued to attack and it was Red Wings who scored once again in the 15th minute to get back into the lead.
The goal was scored by Valtteri Filpulla’s decent tip-in shot.
The period ended with Red Wings leading 2-1. During the course of the period, Red Wings made 10 shots on goal while Capitals made 9 shots on goal.
The second period saw Capitals making a decent start which resulted in them creating quite a few chances of themselves. They managed to score in the 6th minute through Alex Ovechkin’s well placed flick shot.
The period ended with the scores level on 2-2. During the course of the period, Capitals made 9 shots on goal while Red Wings made 16 shots on goal.
The final 20 minutes of play saw both teams continuing to pile up shots and it were Red Wings who managed to score in the 10th minute through Henrik Zetterberg’s brilliant backhand shot.
The score stood still till the end and it was Red Wings who won the game by 3-2 in the end.
