Detroit Tigers 2-12 regular season review – Part 50
With momentum on their side, the Texas Rangers continued their domination over the Detroit Tigers in Game 3 of the series to secure a deserving series victory at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Texas.
In hitting friendly conditions, Rangers’ offence made the most of available scoring opportunities. Credit should also be given to the Tigers for putting up a solid fight but the night belonged to the Rangers who held their nerves to claim their second straight
win against their American League rivals.
Nelson Cruz and David Murphy made valuable contributions in the second inning to help Rangers claim the early 2-0 lead. The Tigers responded, thanks to third baseman Miguel Cabrera and outfielder Brennan Boesch who drove in back to back runs to level score
2-2.
"It was just one of those nights where everything comes together," Murphy said. "It was just impressive the way we showed an offensive effort from top to bottom. It was very complete."
Murphy and Ian Kinsler hit two successive home runs in the fourth inning to give Rangers complete control of the situation. For the Tigers, rookie Quintin Berry Shortstop Jhonny Peralta, Austin Jackson and Prince Fielder combined to reduce the deficit to
9-11 in the eighth inning but their effort was not sufficient to save the Tigers from another disappointing loss.
Tigers’ starting pitcher Doug Fister looked completely out of sorts as he allowed nine hits and nine runs in just over four innings to take his fourth consecutive loss. Relief pitchers Duane Below and Octavio Dotel also had no answers to the Rangers’ onslaught
as they combined to concede four runs and seven hits in three plus innings.
"My command's great, I'm throwing the ball where I want to," Oswalt said. "A few balls leaked on me a little bit during the game, but overall, for all four pitches, I felt pretty good coming out of my hand, like I can throw a strike when I want to.
Rangers’ starter Roy Oswalt had a horrible time on the mound as he allowed 15 hits in six innings but he was fortunate to end up on the winning side.
