Detroit Tigers' Doug Fister looking to put up solid show against Colorado Rockies - MLB Update
According to a top sports website, Tigers’ starting pitcher Doug Fister has fully recovered from his shoulder injury and he is expected to start for the Tigers on Saturday.
In an interview, Fister stated that he is feeling better than before and in some way it was exactly what manager Jim Leyland and General Manager Dave Dombrowski wanted to hear.
Detroit Tigers have been struggling to find their right pitching combinations since the start of the season. Even the ace Justin Verlander has not been able to deliver the goods on regular basis.
In his ten starts, the 2011 American League Most Valuable Player Award winner, Verlander has managed just six wins. Rookie Drew Smyly has given some decent performances but the Tigers will need him to perform consistently to turn things around.
Right now, Jim Leyland and company are placed third on the American League Central Division standings and it will be interesting to see if they can make it to the playoffs for the second straight year.
"He said he felt good (after throwing Wednesday), so we're going to start him," said manager Jim Leyland. "I told you we'd have some action for you.”
"He's stiff and a little sore," Leyland said. "He's definitely not going to pitch Wednesday. That's the only information I can give you on him. He will not pitch Wednesday. We were hoping for that, but that's not going to happen."
Fister, who was placed on a 15-day Disabled List, has been training regularly with Tigers’ pitching coaches and he will be looking to beat the Colorado Rockies at Comerica Park on June 16.
Due to his recurring injury, the starting pitcher has made only six starts for his team. Tigers’ fans also want to see his in action but it will be extremely tough for Fister to handle the pressure.
So far he is 0-3 in his six starts this season with a 3.15 ERA but the tables can be turned any moment. If Fister comes back on the roster on Saturday, the Tigers will be looking to make a subtraction to accommodate him. Andy Dirks still remains on the DL
list.
