Jose Valverde has secured his name for Game 4 of the American League Division Series after the Detroit Tigers beat the New York Yankees 5-4. Pitching the ninth in one of the most important games of his career, Valverde threw a scoreless inning to not only
endow a victory over the Yankees but also get the 50th save of this year.
The post-season closer of Detroit assisted Justin Verlander in bringing another glory to the feather of the Tigers on Monday with a 5-4 win. While Verlander pitched eight innings to allow four runs, Valverde barely allowed any Yankees’ hitter to score and
concluded it with a victory for the team.
Such was his performance that Avila thinks no matter who comes in front of Valverde, he is bound to face the gauntlet.
“I'll be honest with you," catcher Alex Avila said. "With Valverde, it doesn't matter who's up there. He said it. I've said it. It doesn't matter who's up there.”
With the 2-1 lead to their favour, the Detroit Tigers are waiting impatiently for Tuesday to have the opportunity for an amazing series victory and the chance of eliminating the Yankees from the playoffs.
How does Valverde see it? "Tomorrow is tomorrow," Valverde said. "I don't know what tomorrow will bring. If the Yankees win tomorrow, we go to New York and do it over there."
