Detroit Tigers' Justin Verlander is looking to focus on his game play – MLB News
Justin Verlander was absolutely brilliant in the past season as he went on to record the best season of his Major League Baseball career. Showing great composure and determination, he helped the Tigers secure the American Central League title. Following
his consistent performance in MLB, he became the first starting pitcher to win the Most Valuable Player award after almost 25 years.
But the Detroit’s ace isn’t shying away from the extra attention. He is looking stronger than ever before. The starter now wants to focus on his game play before the spring training season starts next month.
On another note, there will be immense pressure on Verlander to produce match winning performances in 2012 season as well. With 24 wins in 2011, the starting pitcher will be looking to lead the Tigers to their second straight American League Central title.
Pitching a no hitter and leading in strikeouts, he was the most talked about baseball player at the end of 2011 season. In addition to his heroics on the field, Verlander put in a lot of effort to stay fit and healthy for the entire season.
“Just kind of pushed it back a couple of weeks. When I was the cover of the video game, that was pretty cool,” he said in a brief telephonic interview with a baseball website.
"That's what I had to stare at the whole game, because I'm a pitcher, so when I'm not pitching, I just sit around in the dugout and look around, because we don't really do much. So every time I look up, I see this thing, and I can't help it. I'm envisioning
your face on the side of this blimp, and it's just like haunting me the whole series."
Throwing in a career high 251 innings goes on to suggest that he is in great physical shape. Still only 28-year-old, Verlander is yet to reach the peak of his career. If he can maintain his sensational form for the next few seasons, he is likely to register
his name in the list of all time greats for the Tigers.
