Detroit Tigers' Justin Verlander to rest in the remaining games – MLB News
Detroit Tigers' Justin Verlander is finished for the American League Division Series after his Game 3 feat on Monday, October 3 to beat the New York Yankees 5-4. This was officially announced by the team manager on Monday.
"I would say so, yes," Leyland said after the Tigers defeated the Yankees, 5-4, to take a 2-1 lead in the series. "I wouldn't do anything foolish. I try not to do anything foolish with any of my pitchers, let alone an arm like that."
Justin Verlander, having had 11 strike-outs in the game tossed some of the best eight innings of his career on Monday to outshine the New York Yankees’ hitters. There was magical variation in his pitches and the speed peaked to 100 mph several times.
Verlander merely allowed six hits in eight innings, whereby he pitched a total of 120 pitches. Such was the remarkable speed of his pitches that 15 of them remained, if not exceeded, 100 mph.
Such brilliant performance called not only for compliments, that the manager called “terrific” effort, but also for the starter’s rest in the remainder of the five-game ALDS.
Verlander will probably want to pitch. But, for now, the most important thing that matters is the team’s ability to finish the series at their home ground. The decisive game, if it enters in that stage, will be played in New York.
While on Tuesday, Verlander has all the rest available to him, what remains open to debate and subject to deep speculation is what will happen if the series entered into the fifth game.
"I haven't talked to him yet," Verlander said of Leyland, who was pretty definitive. "If I need to go out there, make maybe a relief appearance or something, I'll get in his ear about that."
With Game 4 on cards for Tuesday, the Tigers will try to put an end to the Series with a definitive victory. If that does not happen, possibilities of bringing Verlander back cannot be completely ruled out. The Tigers will be looking to put in a tremendous
performance in Game 4 to eliminate the Yankees from contention. If the series goes down to the wire, Verlander may make another appearance.
