Detroit Tigers' designated hitter Delmon Young wins ALCS MVP Award – MLB Update
Detroit Tigers' designated hitter Delmon Young has won the American League Championship Series (ALCS) Most Valuable Player (MVP) Award for his extraordinary performances in all four games against the New York Yankees.
He batted at .353 with two homers and six RBIs in ALCS which ousted the New York Yankees from the World Series race.
“He got hot again this year at the right time for us, He stepped it up under the big lights. Not that they are not bright all year, but they are a little brighter this time of year. He stepped it up two consecutive years for us. And the MVP, what a tremendous honor for him," manager Jim Leyland said for Delmon Young and praised his extraordinary talent which won many games for the Tigers in this ongoing season.
Later Young also commented in the media and explained his emotions on winning this prestigious award as he said, “They've got some great pitchers over there and I was able to find some holes, I have no clue, I need to figure it out for the season, too. That was thanks to our starting pitchers, They carried us the whole playoffs so far.”
Young, with six-years of Major League experience, is certainly playing well in this season. His current .267 hitting average along with 18 homers, 74 RBIs and .296 OBP also makes a good role player in the post-season. While his overall career .284 hitting average along with 89 homers, 482 RBI and .317 OBP is itself a great record for a six year veteran.
His contribution in the very last game against the Yankees proved brilliant as he alone hit New York pitchers with great force.
Maintaining his .765 slugging percentage, Young kept the Yankees' players under pressure and hammered them with big hits.
Along with Young, Tigers' experienced and senior players also contributed in their team’s win. They played aggressively and rattled the Yankees with great focus.
That particular win also cleared the way for the Tigers to go ahead to play for the World Series title against the St. Louis Cardinals or San Francisco Giants.
