Detroit Tigers' skipper Jim Leyland shows optimism for post season race – MLB News
The Detroit Tigers' manager Jim Leyland is showing his optimism ahead of the next potential games and especially for the post season race.
The Tigers are currently facing tough competition with the White Sox but their players and team manager knows what is required at the moment to stable their position in the American League Central Division.
White Sox with a .554 winning percentage are sitting at the top while the Tigers with a .531 percentage are just behind them.
Though the difference is not huge among both teams but as soon as the second half ends, the Wild Card classification will determine whether the Tigers has achieved a post season spot or not.
"I think people say when they don't pay attention (they're not leveling), You see, with these modern scoreboards, every score on every day of the year. They're all over. But, we've got to win games. I always thought he was one of the great power hitters of all time in this game, Mammoth power. And he's just turned it around," Leyland said.
A few weeks earlier some baseball experts and sources speculated in the media that Leyland is feeling under pressure due to certain reasons.
Leyland is considered one of the best baseball managers in the league but currently he is facing some opposition within the organisation as well.
The main argument arrived when their top position was stolen by the White Sox in the first half of the season. Though it was start of the season, but still with too many defeats, some experts and later within the organisation, few people differed with his strategies.
On the other hand, Tigers' starter and All-Star Justin Verlander is out of form and not playing well like he did last year. His performance alone is giving the Tigers trouble which is also making Leyland slightly desperate regarding his team’s future performance.
Meanwhile, Tigers’ skipper Leyland, who is quite expressive in the media about his team’s future performances is also telling the media that their team is feeling the heat ahead of post season and if things go nicely, the playoff spot, is not a problem for Detroit.
