Detroit Tigers’ Doug Fister looking to pounce on New York Yankees – MLB Playoffs
The Detroit Tigers have the hard task to beat the New York Yankees at Yankee stadium on Thursday, October 6. The club is planning to bring on Doug Fister for the encounter and there is a lot of uncertainty in the air as the pitcher will face off against
the Yankees’ Ivan Nova.
The two teams are locked in the American League Division Series with a 2-2 standing in the playoffs. With Game 5 on the horizon, Detroit’s manager Jim Leyland is placing a lot of faith in Fister.
The hurler has only started once against the Yankees and that was at Yankee Stadium. His game star however yielded a loss as he stands 0-1 against the club in the regular season with an earned run average of 3.86. In his career starts against the American
League East Champions, he is 1-2 in three game starts.
Fister however believes he is ready to pitch up to the Yankees. The player was involved in the 3-9 loss to the Yankees in Game 1. He entered the bull-pen, giving away six runs off seven hits in 4.2 innings.
The player has a good record of 11-13 in the regular season to pull him off a shaky experience. With so much belief from the manager, there is faith in Fister.
"Everybody wants to be in that position," Fister said. "Everybody wants to be that guy on the mound in that kind of critical game. It's an honour for me to do it. At the same time, it's just another game, a little more important than the game [Tuesday night]."
The player further breaks down the experience in the playoffs.
"Top to bottom, they've got a great line up," Fister said. "At this point, pitching in the ALDS, everybody is good.
Leyland will be hoping that Fister can steer the club for a win as that will send the Tigers to the American League Championship Series. It will be interesting to see if Fister can put in an impressive performance and take on the mighty Yankees in Game 5
of the American League Division Series.
