Detroit Tigers’ GM Jim Leyland acknowledges Texas Rangers’ fighting spirit - MLB Update
The Detroit Tigers’ general manager Jim Leyland has admitted in the media regarding the Texas Rangers’ fighting and courageous spirit against his team in the American League Championship Series (ALCS).
A local news paper from Detroit talked to Leyland, who explained and admitted the Rangers were a better team in all four games which they have lost especially in Game 6.
Leyland said, “It breaks my heart to say it, but I'm never one to not give somebody else credit, The Texas Rangers are definitely the team that should represent the American League. It was kind of stacked against us a little bit; we have had some rough travel.
We've had some rain. But I learned a long time ago that you don't sit up here and wonder about stuff like that. You give credit where it's due.”
Rangers overpowered the Tigers 4-2 and went ahead in the World Series where they will be battling against the St. Louis Cardinals for the ultimate prize in professional baseball.
Leyland, who is considerably one of the best baseball coaches around in Major League Baseball has rightly praised the Texas Rangers over their tremendous performance in the post-season and especially against the Detroit Tigers.
The Tigers were outplayed by the Rangers in almost every game. The two particular games that the Tigers won were not by big margins as well.
The real debacle came from the Tigers’ batters, who never settled during the entire ALCS and fell short from their expected objectives. Alex Avila, along with Victor Martinez, Omar Santos, Wilson Betemit and Carlos Guillen were real disappointments and could
not really impress with their performances during the entire series.
They never looked confident against the Rangers’ pitchers, who comfortably dominated over their game. The Tigers’ star hitter Miguel Cabrera was the only player who had a decent performance with some sort of consistency for his team. He smashed three homers
in six games and had an OPS of 1.606, but his individual performance was not good enough for the Detroit Tigers, who lost bitterly in the AL series.
