Verlander made his Major League Baseball debut in 2005. However, it was until 2011 when he truly fulfilled his immense talent. The right handed flame thrower is an integral part of the Tigers. It will not be wrong to say that he brought the entire city together like no one else.

For his consistent performances, the starter was also included in the 2011 All-Star team. According to leading baseball website, Verlander has been named as the 2011 WXYZ Newsmaker of the Year. In a year of economic and political crises, throwing light on a sports person is a welcome change.

The interview will be telecasted on Sunday, February 5 at 9:30 am. In his interview, Verlander will take about his personal and family life and his role models and how 2011 has changed his life completely. Previous winners of the WXYZ newsmakers award include Dennis Archer, Eleanor Josaitis, Peter Karmanos, Mitch Albom and Roger Penske, Rick Snyder and Max Fisher.
