Detroit Tigers’ Justin Verlander to start against Texas Rangers in Game 1 of ALCS – MLB Playoffs
The Detroit Tigers have named Justin Verlander to start the American League Championship Series against the Texas Rangers on Saturday, October 8.
This comes at a time when there may well be internal debates and arguments that usually follow about the decision pertaining to strategies. The game against the Rangers, however, has one clear objective in sight and that is to win.
The American League Division Series that the Detroit played against the New York Yankees was an infallible sign of the Tigers’ heavy reliance on their pitching. Three of the games that they won against the otherwise strong Yankees could only transpire through
strong pitching.
That is where Verlander matters to the Tigers as that is what the team manager also takes into account. Although there may well be internal debates and arguments over how best to go ahead with a game plan, the end result is always a mix of views.
"Him and I always seem to differ one way or another," Verlander said. "After the game, I can't quite remember, it was in the middle of the celebration, I think he came up to me and [said] something along of the lines of, 'You never trust your skipper, do
you? It worked out all right, didn't it?'”
The impression that the team manager and the starter might have great differences was ruled out by Verlander. He knows what each team does and where it stands today, as there is a great contribution by the team manager.
“He's a great people person,” Verlander said. “He handles individuals extremely well.”
Both teams will be looking to put in a tremendous performance to get a victory and dominate the series from the start.
In the 2006 post-season games, Verlander played a total of with 5.82 ERA while here he has a 5.00 ERA in two games that he appeared. It remains to be seen how Verlander pitches in one of the most important of games against the Texas Rangers.
