Detroit Tigers’ Justin Verlander to start against the New York Yankees – MLB News
The Detroit Tigers have named Justin Verlander for Saturday, October 1 post-season game against the New York Yankees. Doug Fister who was named the Pitcher of the Month was another potential for the game.
With Derek Jeter of the New York Yankees facing Verlander, fans await to see the clash of these two highly talented players. Verlander, who has had 24 wins this season so far, is one of the most successful pitchers in the season. His powerful presence is
a source of dread for many teams in the League.
"Man, I got home at 4:30. I don't even know what I'm saying right now," Jeter said Thursday, a day before he and the New York Yankees face Justin Verlander and the Detroit Tigers. "It's not fun yet."
With CC Sabathia named to start against the Detroit Tigers on Saturday, the duel between the two pitchers and the respective hitters who face them will be an added feature of the game. Both pitchers are very talented and extremely competitive.
"But hey, 100 is 100 -- we've seen it before," Yankees’ right fielder Nick Swisher said.
Verlander will be looking to put in a tremendous performance for the Tigers as he has been chosen to start the proceedings against the Yankees. The pressure in the playoffs can be immense and only players with true character can handle the game at this level.
Verlander is one such player, as the Tigers have complete faith in their pitcher. Detroit knows all too well the power of the Yankees in the post-season, as they will be looking for any competitive edge they can muster against New York.
The New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers game might not be called the ‘Clash of Titans’, since the Yankees have a relative edge over the Tigers. It still is a different game because, in the words of Tigers’ manager Jim Leyland, "The blood is flowing a little
bit different all of a sudden."
With 250 strike-outs to his credit, Verlander’s pitches will be the most lethal weapon to be used against the Yankees on Saturday as the Tigers look to fight it out.
