Detroit Tigers’ Justin Verlander to start practicing from next week – MLB News
The Detroit Tigers’ starter Justin Verlander has stated that he will start practicing for 2012 season from next week. Accentuating the importance he attaches to practice, Verlander is now fully prepared to take the ball.
Even though the pitchers mostly prefers to rest after a seemingly long season, Verlander is one of a kind. His team made their way into the MLB playoffs with considerable energy and force, showing their ability to strike whenever they were faced with a challenge.
Verlander had a distinguishing record to his credit when the 2011 season completely ended. With 270 innings that he pitched, he played one of the most crucial roles for the Detroit Tigers’ journey into the playoffs.
The amazing season that Verlander had, arguably one of the best of his career, will now enable him to repeat the same performance in the next season. Asked if he can do it again, he struck a positive note, nodding in affirmation.
While emphasising that he might not have the kind of season he had this time, he said he would give his best to make it possible.
"I think I can," Verlander said. "I don't know if I'll have a season like this again. I'm not saying I'll have a season like this, but I'm not saying I won't. ... “
How does he do it? Certainly with more and more practice. Also the fact that the practice session starts from the next week goes on to show how seriously he takes it.
"I think I'm still scratching the surface here. The things I did, the work I put in in Spring Training, it changed things, and it changed me."
Verlander was all praise for his management as well. “I think our management has done a fantastic job building a ballclub that has the talent to compete."
While there may have been a few inconsistencies that marked the pitcher’s 2011 performance, it remains beyond a shadow of a doubt that with his 24-5 record, he will be once again a favourite starter for his team and the fans.
