Detroit Tigers’ Manager Jim Leyland enjoying success – MLB Update
Everybody has nice things to say to the Detroit Tigers’ Manager Jim Leyland these days. After going through a testing time most of the summer, he finally finds himself in a position he had hoped for.
As it is, he said, "I'm on every Twitter, every Facebook in the world today with some bride that got married last night."
"They were really nice people," he added.
"It's so nice," said Leyland, 67. "I'm running into people all over. … It's neat. It's people. It's life. It's great."
On Thursday last week, Tigers made it to the World Series finals for the second time in Leyland’s tenure. Starting pitcher Max Scherzer put up a dominant show to restrict the New York Yankees to just one run in Game 4, laying the foundations of an impressive
victory.
"Everywhere you go, people are pumped up. They're selling all kinds of Tigers stuff all over town. Where I live out in Royal Oak, everybody's got Tigers gear on, everybody's in good spirits," Leyland further added.
With their win, the Tigers also completed an emphatic American League Championship Series sweep. However, credit should be given to the entire pitching rotation that created problems for the Yankees’ batting line-up throughout the series.
Anibal Sanchez and Doug Fister were brilliant in first two games of the series as they combined to pitch 14 scoreless innings to dent Yankees’ confidence levels. Then it was Justin Verlander’s turn to welcome the Yankees.
Earlier in their best of five games American League Division Series against the Oakland Athletics, Leyland and his men displayed some top quality fighting skills. After the A’s bounced back to level the series 2-2, with momentum on their side, they were
the favourites to win the series. However, Verlander once again made the difference as he shut-out the A’s in the finale to send the Tigers to ALCS for the second straight season.
Leyland will be extremely satisfied person these days but life without a World Series title will be certainly incomplete. It will be interesting to see if the Tigers can end the season on bright and shiny note to bring World Series to the City of Detroit
after almost three decades.
