Detroit Tigers’ Manager meets his high school mates in Ohio – MLB News
Detroit Tigers’ Manager Jim Leyland has been in professional baseball for 50 years now. Recently, he had the chance to celebrate his high school reunion in Perrysburg in Ohio.
In an interview with a leading sports website, Leyland said he knew everybody in the social gathering except for two people. He added that he had a wonderful time with his high school mates.
When one of the reporters asked him if the women looked at him differently than when he was in the high school, Leyland smiled and laughed at the joke.
"I knew everybody but two people," Leyland said. There was one fella and one girl I didn't know. I knew everybody else, and we had a wonderful time."
"I don't see quite as good as I used to. But they looked pretty good to me," Leyland said, smirking. "I wondered when I drove back to Pittsburgh, 'I wonder how the girls thought old Jimbo looked.'"
Leyland was very popular among the students in the school. A number of those women now want to stay in touch with Leyland. Some of his high school fellows are even planning a trip to the training facility in Lakeland as they all want to celebrate each other’s
70th birthday.
"I hope I make it!" Leyland added with a smile on his face. "We had such a good time."
Leyland was also asked how long he plans on staying in Detroit. As expected, he did not answer the question. Tigers’ skipper has been managing the club since 2006. He took his side to the World Series finals twice. However, on both occasions his team was
unable to cross the finale.
Right now, he is on a one year contract and he could call it a career if the Tigers win the World Series title in the next season. It will not be wrong to say that Leyland has played a key role in turning Tigers into one of the elite clubs in the American
League. Surely, he will be expecting his team to cross the final hurdle in the next season so he could end his career on a high note.
