Detroit Tigers’ Max Scherzer to pitch the opener – MLB News
It looks like the Detroit Tigers have decided to have their top pitcher Max Scherzer open in the third game of the Major League Baseball season scheduled to start on March 31.
The Tigers have full faith in Scherzer as he is a tremendously talented pitcher capable of tearing apart any top batting line-up in the League. He previously played for the Arizona Diamondbacks where he managed a record 424 strike-outs and an ERA of 3.69.
Max is an excellent addition to the Tigers pitching rotation, as he has strengthened the bullpen with his talent. The Tigers have shown great confidence in Scherzer as it is an honour to be able to open during the first week of the regular season. Most pitchers
only dream of getting the opportunity to pitch for their team at the beginning of the season.
Tigers’ manager Jim Leyland has already announced that Justin Verlander will pitch the opening game against the New York Yankees on March 31. As Scherzer will pitch in the third game, it is unknown right now as to which pitcher will throw for the second
game.
“We have not decided yet,” said Tiger’s manager.
The Tigers are looking for a successful season with the hope of making it to the playoffs. As still there is Spring Training to come, the team is looking to their pitching depth to lead them to some victories over the season.
Spring Training will give the Tigers the opportunity to perfect their strategies and finalise their rotation and line-up. Also, the younger players in the team will get some much needed game time against some of the top tier teams in the league.
Many experts feel that Detroit has the talent and the depth to take on the best teams and quite possibly go all the way to the World Series. With pitchers like Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer, it is a distinct possibility that the team will have a tremendous
season. However, it is still too early to tell, as Spring Training will begin next month and a clearer picture is sure to develop.
