Detroit Tigers’ Max Scherzer wants to be a Tiger for life – MLB News
Just like his team mate Justin Verlander, starring pitcher Max Scherzer wants to be Tiger for life, reports a leading a sports website. According to sources, Scherzer is still keen to sign a long term deal with the Tigers. However, for now it seems he will
have to settle of being a Tiger for just one season.
Tigers’ offered him a one year $6.75 million contract so both parties could avoid arbitration. Scherzer’s agent Scott Boras is one of the most powerful and influential seller in Major League Baseball right now. In an interview with a leading sports website,
Boras confirmed that both parties have been discussing the possibility of a multiyear contract.
"We were focused on trying to get a one-year thing done," Scherzer said. "But, if they really want to do a multi-year deal, I'm willing to listen because I love being apart of this organization."
"I was happy to get it out of the way," Scherzer said. "Either way, at the end of the day, I was back with the Tigers and going to have a contract and get a nice payday."
"It would get dicey if they brought it up during the season," he said. "I would never rule it out, but I wouldn't want to be negotiating during the season.”
Scherzer, on the other hand, is looking focused ahead of 2013 regular season. The right hander wants to get the one year thing done before thinking about signing a multimillion deal with the Tigers. Scherzer also acknowledged that he will be more than happy
to do a multiyear deal as he loves to be part of this organisation.
Apart from a few setbacks, the starter had a decent time on the mound last season. Scherzer has an excellent fast ball and he can use it very effectively against the right handed hitters. He is likely to grab one of the starting spots on Tigers’ pitching
rotation that also includes Verlander, Anibal Sanchez, Doug Fister and Drew Smyly. It will be interesting to see if he can continue the good work in 2013 to secure a big buck deal.
