Detroit Tigers’ Miguel Cabrera gets arrested for drunk driving – MLB News
It looks like the offseason drama never ends in Major League Baseball, as the Detroit Tigers’ Miguel Cabrera got arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol in Florida. The team is currently in Florida as they get ready for Spring Training.
It seems that Cabrera was also disrespectful and had harsh words for the police officers that arrested him. The Tigers find themselves in a predicament as they are in the middle of a media circus right before Spring Training. This is the last thing that
the team wanted, as they are going through their workout sessions to get ready for the season. The media storm will only become a serious distraction for the team and the players.
The Tigers were obviously shocked by Cabrera’s recent arrest. A few team-mates like catcher Alex Avila made some comments in the media regarding the situation.
"As hard as we work in this game, and everybody wants to win, there's obviously things that are more important in life. ... That's one thing that I know Miguel knows -- that he has a family here," Avila said. "Millions of people have problems with alcohol
throughout the entire world. It's not something that can't be overcome. It's something that can be overcome, but you need a lot of help."
After Cabrera was fined and released it is rumoured that he met with general manager Dave Dombrowski to discuss the situation. Major League Baseball has also taken serious notice of the situation and is looking into some possible punishment for the player.
This is a very serious situation for the team and especially the league, as they are projecting a healthy and positive family friendly image to the public. Incidents like this cause serious damage to the image of MLB and the Detroit Tigers as an organisation.
Cabrera is said to be apologetic and embarrassed by his arrest and bad behaviour. The league is looking into a possible rehabilitation program for the player and his possible issues with alcohol abuse.
The Tigers will be looking to put this situation behind them as soon as possible as Spring Training is starting and they will want to focus on their performance on the field. The team will be hoping the media circus subsides and does not create a distraction
for the other players on the team.
It will be interesting to see what punishment Cabrera gets from MLB and the Tigers. However, with Spring Training starting and the regular season around the corner, the focus for the team and Miguel will be to get in a good workout session and put in a good
performance in Spring Training.
