Detroit Tigers’ Miguel Cabrera not living in the past – MLB News

According to freep.com, Detroit Tigers’ third baseman Miguel Cabrera signed his autograph for about 500 people standing in line outside the Tigers’ training facility in Lakeland. Some of the fans stood for as long as 10 hours and spent some serious bucks
to get the 2012 Most Valuable Players’ signature.
Cabrera charged $225 for signing an object and $80 to engrave MVP or Triple Crown. In an interview, Cabrera said it was an honour for him to sign objects for his fans and then he talked about something that could make his fans even more excited.
"That's in the past," Cabrera said. "We have to move forward and try to be ready for next season."
When someone asked him about his American League MVP and Triple Crown, he acted like it was a distant memory. Cabrera added that he is solely focusing on the future as he does not want to live in the past.
A few days ago, someone asked Derek Lowe the secret to stopping the Tigers. He did not mention Cabrera or first baseman Prince Fielder. What he said was very telling and insightful. Lowe believes the secret to overcoming the Tigers in the next season will
be to keep their first two batters off base.
Not only Cabrera has an extremely healthy career average, he can hit home-runs and drive in runs. That’s how he helps the Tigers win games, on a regular basis. It also explains why the Tigers were so desperate to sign outfielder Torii Hunter, who is expected
to hit second, right in front of Cabrera.
"Great!" Cabrera said. "He brings a lot of experience, and he brings a lot of leadership. He has been in the league a lot of years. We have to be thankful because he signed, he chose Detroit."
"Mr. Dombrowski, Mr. Ilitch and the front office do a good job of bringing people to Detroit," Cabrera said. "We know they are going to be aggressive. We know they are going to bring somebody to help us this year."
Hunter hit .313 with 16 home-runs and 92 RBI’s last season. It will be interesting to see if he can combine with Cabrera to help the Tigers end their World Series drought.
