Detroit Tigers’ Miguel Cabrera strong candidate for American League Most Valuable Player Award
Throughout this season, Miguel Cabrera has shown us just what he is capable of. Not only is he super hitter of the baseball but he also has the ability to come up with his best in a pressure situation. It will not be wrong to say that he has fuelled the
Tigers run to the top of American League Central Division standings. But why should he win the AL MVP Award?
The answer is very simple. Cabrera is a big kid in big man’s body. His ability to hit home-runs at Comerica Park has helped the Tigers win several important games. He is tougher than most of the players on the MLB circuit. Even with a sprained ankle, he
continues to play as a designated hitter and smack home-runs all over the baseball park.
The guy just loves playing baseball. He is always looking for room to improve his game-play and passes on the skills to youngsters in the Minor League. Manager Jim Leyland says that Cabrera is the best hitter in Major League Baseball right now, an MVP candidate.
Tigers’ results would be obviously different without him.
"He is not ready to play (in the field) obviously," Leyland said. "He is our potential MVP. The lineup would be a little bit different without him. It would also be different without Prince. A lot of people just think he is a big muscle man, and he is not
at all. He is the total opposite. He has total elasticity in his swing. He has a real fluid swing. He is not just muscling the ball out of the ballpark. It is a beautiful swing. Sometimes you see a bigger guy and they just overpower the ball and hit it over
the fence.”
Cabrera is having an incredible season. His batting average of .327 is the second best in the American Leagues. He has 159 hits and a .586 slugging percentage which make him an automatic selection for the AL MVP voting. So far he has 32 home-runs, 32 doubles
and 106 RBIs, considerably higher than any other hitter in the League. It will be interesting to see if he can lead the Tigers to their second straight AL Central Division title.
