Detroit Tigers’ Mike Maroth retires; Boston Red Sox look for big turnout in caravan event
The Detroit Tigers are riding high on this season’s journey to the playoffs. Their main objective is to move the Minnesota Twins out of the top league position standings and move into the spot themselves. They have the strength
of a good hitting squad that is backed up by the bullpen that is looking strong so far.
The Tigers may not have the power to put them in the premier position, but they will be looking forward to contain things. Things look different from the days when veteran Mike Maroth played for the club. The 33-year-old finally
called it quits on 25 January after a menacing tenure in the last 6 seasons.
"I gave it everything I had. I feel confident that I'm making the right decision," Maroth told FoxSports.com. "I'd love to keep playing, but I realize that I don't have it in me. I have no regrets. I put forth all of the effort
possible to continue to play, but I believe my body just can't do it anymore."
Mike had been a third round pick prospect for the Boston Red Sox. He joined the Detroit Tigers in 1999 and made his debut in 2002. He posted six wins and 10 losses in his rookie season. However, he lost momentum as he broke a record
for most losses in a season as he went for 21 defeats in 2003. His final league appearance came in 2007 when he played for the Tigers before moving onto St. Louis Cardinals.
In other news, the Cincinnati Reds are gathering support in the city for the team and the players. Working alongside National Football club, Bengals, the club is looking great in the current situation as a caravan ride is being
considered for travel through various parts of the city. The ride will cover 2600 miles in over four states. In addition to that, there will be 15 stops during the journey.
"We expect the 2011 caravan to be bigger and better than ever," Reds public relations manager Michael Anderson said. "It's a great opportunity to connect with fans all around Reds Country and for fans to get up close and personal
with their favorite Reds players, coaches and broadcasters."
The fans that are still looking to meet the club will have the chance in the community, as the caravan will travel around town for the festivities.
