Detroit Tigers’ Nick Castellanos making inroads with right attitude – MLB Update
Nick Castellanos is an extremely talented hitter. The right hander was drafted out of high school in 2010 and it did not take him to long to realise his immense potential. Castellanos is considered as the best hitting prospect in Tigers’ Minor League system.
His swing technique is absolutely perfect. However, what separates him from rest of the hitter in Minor League is his ability to perform in pressure situations. Castellanos is one of those hitters, who are always looking for improvement in their game play.
At just 20-years-old, he is still inexperienced and it may take him some time to break into Tigers’ big league roster. His fans want to see him playing either first base or third base for the Tigers.
However, with Prince Fielder and Miguel Cabrera occupying the first and third base respectively, his chances of making it to the big league at those positions are very slim.
"I think we were in a position that we had found no desire to trade him," Dombrowski said of Castellanos. "Again, I don't like to say we have an untradeable player, because, you say that and all of a suddenly, something happens. But it would have taken a
great deal. We never discussed him, from our end, in any deal whatsoever. But we were asked about him often."
The only possibility can be injuries. If either Cabrera or Fielder misses the entire season due to an injury, Castellanos will have an excellent chance of cementing his place on the roster.
Since he does not have any Major League Baseball experience, Castellanos can also make his first appearance as an outfielder. He is young and has a lot of energy in his legs. Even Cabrera changed his position last year as part of Tigers’ game plan.
There have been serious rumours that the Tigers might trade him for someone like Cole Hamels to strengthen the pitching rotation.
"It's there, constantly," he said. "I don't know if there is any truth to some of it. I just want the trade deadline to be over with.
After hearing all kinds of rumours, Castellanos will be getting crazy and it will be interesting to see the path he takes to achieve his desired goals.
