Detroit Tigers’ Quintin Berry looking to cement his place on roster – MLB News
Detroit Tigers’ Quintin Berry is making the most of his opportunities these days. Not only is he very enthusiastic, he has also some unbelievable catching abilities in the outfield.
The size of the glove he uses in the outfield is also bigger than what most of the other outfielders are using now a days. However, his unmatchable hitting skills are what make his special and valuable for the Tigers.
In a game against Colorado Rockies a few days ago, the striker had five hits, which is the most by any Tigers since in 12 years history of Comerica Park. The other players to achieve 5-for-5 feat include Austin Jackson, Rogers Cedeno and Craig Monroe.
There is no denying the fact there is still great room for improvement in Berry’s game play but considering his athleticism and youth, he can surely learn from his mistakes to become one of the greats of the game.
Berry was not the most successful in minor league system but he is certainly showing excellent composure and pressure handling ability at the highest possible level, major league.
"He brings some speed, some energy and a different look to our lineup," catcher Gerald Laird said.
"I agree it looks huge because I've noticed it myself on TV when I've watched replays," Berry said with the same amiable tone with which he answers all questions.
"I think it's the tan color of the glove that makes it looks that way. This is the first year I've used a tan glove, and it's the first year I've gotten questions about the size of the glove I use.”
"I'm not looking for anything," Berry said. "Just trying to be ready to play whenever they call my name."
According to sources, other big hitters in Tigers’ lineup, including Prince Fielder and Miguel Cabrera also love to watch him on the plate.
With Tigers' offence struggling to live up to the expectations this season, Berry has an excellent chance to cement his place on Tigers’ big league roster.
Of course, it will be tough when some of the injured players return from the DH list but it is certainly worth a try for him.
