Detroit Tigers: Regular Season Results – MLB April 2011
Detroit Tigers made a very shaky start to the regular season as they received a 3-6 hammering in first game of their three match series against the inform New York Yankees, on March 31. Despite putting up a great fight in game 2, Tigers were unable to find
winning way as they conceded the series 0-2.
Looking to restore some of the lost pride in game three of the series, the Tigers showed great mental strength and determination to floor the Yankees 10-7. Although they had lost the series, the win was of great importance as it provided them with the required
momentum going into their next series with the Baltimore Orioles.
However, the Tigers failed to put up a decent show in their series against the Orioles as well, as they lost the opening encounter 1-5. They bounced back to level the series in game 2 but considering the number of unforced errors they made throughout the
series, they were always fighting a losing battle. Orioles secured a thumping 5-1 win in game three to clinch the series.
"We were looking to get home at .500 and we had a shot at that tonight and we let it get away," Detroit manager Jim Leyland said. "We played six games and we're 2-4. That's what we deserve to be. Tomorrow, we'll try to make it 3-4."
Detroit Tigers had a disappointing series against Kansas City Royals as well. Although they were victorious in the first game of the series, the Tigers were outplayed in almost all areas in the next two matches to let the opposing team take a 2-1 series
victory.
Breaking the deadlock, the Tigers won their first series against Texas Rangers. Despite losing the opening game 0-2, the Tigers bounced back brilliantly to win the next two games to register their first series win of the season. Jose Valverde pitched impressively
throughout the series to help his side get things back on track. Team Manager Jim Leyland was very pleased with the players’ response and he aimed to continue their good form for the entire month.
"I thought that was really a good game," Detroit manager Jim Leyland said. "We knew it might be hard to score runs, because they were going to be using a lot of pitchers, and that makes it tough on the hitters."
Tigers gave considerable results in the following week as they had series victories against Chicago White Sox and the Seattle Mariners. However, they ended the month on a poor note, taking a 0-3 series loss against Seattle Mariners. The Tigers struggled
in the beginning of April, but turned it around near the end of the month as they improved their offence.
