Detroit Tigers: Regular Season Results – MLB August 2011
The month of August 2011 turned out to be a great one for Detroit Tigers. After ending the previous month with a decent 57-51 win-loss record, Team’s manager Jim Leyland was hoping for another productive period of thirty days to make it to the top of the
Wild Card standings.
In their first series of the month against Texas Rangers, the Tigers displayed some high quality baseball as they clinched a thrilling 6-5 encounter. Emerging victorious 6-5 in game two, they secured a crucial 2-0 victory against the hottest team in baseball.
Doug Fister won for the first time in 11 games to earn his side a crunching series victory.
"He did exactly what we expected him to do," Tigers’ manager Jim Leyland said. "He's going to give up some hits, because he throws so many strikes, but he gets the job done. He gets outs."
Detroit Tigers continued their impressive run in series against Kansas City Royals as well as they improved their win-loss record to 61-53. Although they put a decent fight in their series against Cleveland Indians, they were unable to get the job done,
conceding the contest 1-2.
Tiger were absolutely brilliant in a very closely contested series against Baltimore Orioles. Defeating the Orioles 6-5 in the second game,
"It was a heck of a comeback for us, obviously. We play hard. We play nine innings. That's been the theme ever since I've been here. The guys didn't quit. I'm proud of them," Leyland said.
Miguel Cabrera’s home-run helped his side bounce back from a 0-5 deficit as Tigers clinched one of the most amazing victories in the regular season. Thrashing Cleveland Indians 3-0, the Tigers seemed to be improving their game play with every passing day.
They crushed Tampa Bay Rays 3-2 in their next series, as they outplayed the opposing team in every department of the game.
Similar results were achieved in the contest against Minnesota Twins as well as the Tigers extended their winning streak. Detroit ended the month on a great note as they secured another series victory over Kansas City Royals. The only series loss for the
Tigers in August came against Cleveland Indians. By the end of August, the Tigers had improved their win-loss record to 75-61.
Jim Leyland was absolutely delighted with the way his team responded to difficult situations and he aimed to give similar results in their future games as well. In an interview, he praised his team's efforts. Tigers were certainly one of the hottest teams
in the month of August as they were victorious in 19 of their 29 outings. Detroit managed to put in consistently impressive performances throughout the month to improve their standings.
