Detroit Tigers: Regular Season Results – MLB June 2011
After improving their win-loss record to 28-26 in the month of May 2011, Detroit Tigers carried over their impressive form into the next month as well.
Although they lost the first game of their three match series against the Chicago White Sox, Tigers came back strongly to register their first series victory of June 2011. Crushing the White Sox 7-3 in game three, they looked on top of their performance.
Brad Penny bounced back from a shaky start to pick up an amazing victory.
"(The White Sox) had a lot of foul balls to get his pitch count up," Tigers’ manager Jim Leyland said. "He had good stuff. It wasn't his best, but he battled through it and picked up a win."
Detroit Tigers continued their commanding form in their three match series against Texas Rangers as well. Hammering the Rangers 8-1 in the second game of the series, they secured their second series victory of the month with a great team effort. Rick Porcello
pitched with extreme confidence as he won for the sixth time in his last seven appearances in the League. Austin Jackson also did a great job with the bat as he hit three runs in three hits.
"When we hit 'em good, they were falling in and when we hit 'em bad, they were falling in sometimes," Tigers’ manager Jim Leyland said.
Tigers had a very tough series against the inform Seattle Mariners. Despite clinching the opening clash 4-1, they only managed to draw the series. In game three, they secured a tremendous 8-1 victory. Max Scherzer showed great character as he allowed only
one run on four hits and two walks in seven innings to let his side take a 2-1 lead.
"I thought we played well," manager Jim Leyland said.
However, Mariners levelled the series in fourth game with an incredible fighting performance. Tigers were successful in their three match series against Cleveland Indians as well. In the decider (game three), they crushed the Indians 6-2 in a brilliant performance
to earn their third series victory of the month and improve their win-loss record to 38-31. Max Scherzer was again the star of the show as he earned his ninth win. He put in a tremendous effort as he led from the front.
Tigers had their chances in their series against Los Angeles Dodgers and Colorado but they were unable to convert them, losing both series 1-2. However, Lim Leyland’s team ended the season on quite a positive note as they outshined Arizona Diamondbacks 2-1.
After making a disastrous start to their regular season campaign, it was a remarkable achievement for the Tigers to end the month of June with a 44-38 win-loss record.
