Detroit Tigers: Regular Season Results – MLB September 2011
Detroit Tigers were absolutely unstoppable in the month of September 2011 as they emerged victorious in 20 of their 26 outings. Although they lost their first game of the month against Kansas City 8-11 they displayed some high quality baseball against the
Chicago White Sox.
Thrashing the White Sox 3-0 in the series, they improved their win-loss record to 78-62. Tigers looked in commanding form in game three of the series as they secured a thumping 18-2 victory to close out a very one sided contest. Max Scherzer pitched with
great firepower as he allowed only five hits in seven scoreless innings to take complete control of the game.
"Craziest game I've ever been a part of as a professional -- just watching all the hits keep piling up and runs keep piling up," Scherzer said.
Tigers continued their impressive form in the series against Cleveland Indians as well, hammering the Indians 3-0. Detroit Tigers dominated their rivals in almost all areas of the game in each clash. Demolishing the opposing team 10-1 in game 2 of the series,
they looked on top of their game.
"When you're playing in your division this late and winning, it works out pretty good," Tigers’ Jim Leyland said. "It's a two-game swing every time. It's good to meet your competition head-on and win. Right now, we're in a pretty good flow."
The success story seemed to be never ending for the AL Central team, who battered their rivals with great force in their next series against the Minnesota Twins. Winning each clash of the series, the Tigers ended the battle with an impressive 84-62 win-loss
record.
Outshining their opponents in their next three series, the Tigers swept the Chicago White Sox twice in ten days. Although the White Sox put up a good fight throughout the series, they were outplayed in finer details of the game by a better team.
The AL Central team suffered only their second loss of the month against the Oakland Athletics on September 15. Despite trailing 1-2 in the series, the Tigers finished strongly with an incredible 3-0 victory in game four. Although they made a large number
of unforced errors, they managed to level the series against Baltimore Orioles as well.
Ending their regular season on a very bright note, the Tigers outclassed the Cleveland Indians for the second straight time to improve their win-loss record to 95-67, which was a remarkable achievement considering the kind of start they had to the year.
Jim Leyland, team’s Manager, was very pleased with the way the Tigers responded to difficult situations in regular season and he aimed to put up a decent show during the post-season as well.
