Detroit Tigers’ ace Justin Verlander humiliate Baltimore Orioles – MLB Update
Justin Verlander bounced back strongly from his poor All Star outing on Sunday, July 15 at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, Baltimore, Maryland as Detroit Tigers blanked the Baltimore Orioles 4-0 in the finale to take the series.
Verlander paid the ultimate price for his errors on the mound last week when he faced the National League batters. In his only inning pitched, the 2011 American League Most Valuable Players award gave up five runs, which allowed the National League to establish
complete control over the contest.
Although he crossed the 101 mph barrier a couple of times, Verlander lacked control and accuracy. NL offence was prepared and they roughed up the Tigers ace to help their side win the All Star Game for the third straight time. Tigers’ manager Jim Leyland
will be very pleased with the way Verlander conducted himself on Sunday afternoon.
"Yes, but at the same time, I had to tell myself that that's not the kind of pitcher that I am," Verlander said. "Everybody that has watched me or followed the Tigers or myself knows that that's not me. That's not the way I normally pitch so it's easy to
turn the page."
"After the All-Star Game, I thought we were going to have a real good shot of lighting him up, but I think he was just setting us up," left-fielder Chris Davis said. "He's good. He won MVP last year for a reason. I felt like at times that he was just toying
with us."
Allowing just three hits in eight scoreless innings, he toyed with the Orioles’ batters. It will be interesting to see if Verlander can continue to trouble the batters with his dipping fastballs and curveballs to help Detroit replace the American League
Central Division leaders, Chicago White Sox.
Baltimore Orioles, who held off the Tigers in Game 2, looked short of answers against Verlander as they failed to put up a single run on the board. Third baseman Miguel Cabrera continued his excellent hitting form, hitting a home-run in the bottom of the
ninth to wrap up a stunning Tigers’ win.
