Detroit Tigers’ ace Justin Verlander will likely win more awards in future – MLB News
After winning the precious Cy Young Award, the Detroit Tigers’ star pitcher Justin Verlander is now enjoying the limelight that comes with every big achievement in America.
Many have already started to say as he will surely win this year’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) Award and some who know the game well enough were also pretty accurate to say that Verlander will be even a bigger superstar and will win numerous awards in the
near future.
Verlander was also very excited on winning the Cy Young, “I've worked extremely hard for this. You guys know how competitive I am. Looking at the big picture of things, it would be nice to win some more. But for right now, I've got to be excited with where
I'm at. Lot of hard work, lot of preparation.”
His stats were perfect to win this year’s Cy Young. Verlander, who played a significant role dominating all the American League pitchers in the post-season, remained consistent throughout the whole season as well. He led the AL with 24 victories along with
a 2.40 ERA and 250 strike-outs to put his team in a position where they easily defeated many tough teams. Not only was it the beginning of a new Verlander, who is known to be always accurate whenever his team needs him.
His season long performances for the Tigers eventually led them to play a best of seven series against the Texas Rangers in the American League Championship Series. Though the Rangers won the series from the Tigers but the fact remained, that Verlander did
his best to outdo everyone that he faced.
Already he has won the best Tiger of the Year and Best Player of the Year Award this off-season and winning the Cy Young is certainly a great achievement itself for Verlander’s career and now many other awards are soon to follow. It will be interesting to
see how Verlander manages to handle all of the attention and does not let it affect his future pitching performance for the team.
