Detroit Tigers among six teams looking to buy Anibal Sanchez’s services – MLB Update
According to a leading sport website, the Detroit Tigers are trying hard to bring back starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez. The source claims that the Tigers are one of the six Major League Baseball teams expected to pursue Sanchez, who became free agent as
soon as the World Series.
Teams are likely to begin their negotiations with free agents on Saturday and it will be interesting to see if the Tigers can offer Sanchez a lucrative contract to acquire his services.
"I'm not sure where it's going to lead with him," GM Dave Dombrowski said in a press conference. "But I do know that he's a very sought-after guy."
"Offers being equal, it helps you," he further added. "Offers that blow you away, it doesn't really make much difference."
Starting pitcher Sanchez had one of the finest seasons of his career last year. He showed unmatchable ability to absorb pressure. His performances in the second half of the regular season and the playoffs, in particular, were quite outstanding. It will not
be wrong to say that he played a key role in Tigers’ American League Central Division winning campaign.
However, Sanchez, who was acquired from the Miami Marlins at the non waiver trade deadline, will not be a low-cost option anymore. He did exactly what the Tigers wanted him to and now it is time for the Tigers to make him an offer that is irresistible.
"He’s earned that right," Leyland said in an interview. "That’s what six-year free agency’s all about. He’s earned the right to do that, and God bless him."
"I know he likes it here," Leyland said. "But we all know how that goes. You can like it anywhere, if the price is right."
Three other Tigers were also declared free agents after the World Series but the Tigers have shown interest in bringing back only Sanchez. Toronto Blue Jays, Los Angeles Angels, Los Angeles Dodgers and Texas Rangers have also expressed their desire to acquire
Sanchez.
Tigers’ General Manager Dave Dombrowski and Manager Jim Leyland are convinced that they have a great chance to bring back Sanchez, who feels very comfortable in Detroit but money is likely to determine Sanchez’s next step forward.
