Detroit Tigers and Tampa Bay Rays’ game rained out – MLB Update
Rain put off the Detroit Tigers and Tampa Bay Rays’ game at Comerica Park, Detroit on Wednesday, May 25.
Detroit Tigers, who were leading with two consecutive wins, were a win away to sweep the three-game series.
While the results barely favoured Tampa Bay, the team manager was neither overly happy with the news of game postponement nor showed disappointment in the team for an obviously unsatisfactory performance.
"We're a good enough ballclub and we're stable enough mentally to be able to handle whatever is thrown at us," Tampa Bay outfielder B.J. Upton said. "Come Friday, our heads will be clear and we'll be ready to go again."
While the game has been postponed up until June 13, Wednesday’s game saw Detroit getting an early 2-0 lead in the first two innings. Winning by 6-3 on Monday, May 23 and by 7-6 on Tuesday, May 24, Detroit were comfortably poised here – so it seemed, and
if Tampa Bay came up with something extraordinary, to win.
This was the third game that fell victim to rain. Interestingly, only last year did Tigers have three rainouts. However, as these games are to be played afterwards, this may actually leave a little space for the Tigers to rest in the face of a tremendously
hectic schedule.
The Tigers have in their fold some quality players who have helped them be in the driving seat against almost every team. Justin Verlander is one of them. He has a streak of 10 impressive starts, the longest by any Tigers’ pitcher since 1913.
Detroit shall host Boston Red Sox on Thursday. The Red Sox have had their surge lately with wins over Cleveland Indians. Thus, Detroit will have an increasingly tough competition ahead.
The three premature ending of games due to rain in last 11 days, that too at critical times, will surely burden the Tigers as they look to play against the Red Sox. It will be interesting to see how he rain affected games factor later in the season for both
teams.
