Detroit Tigers battle past Chicago White Sox 10-8 – MLB Update
Detroit Tigers battled past Chicago White Sox 10-8 at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago, Illinois, on Tuesday, May 15 in the second game of their two match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
With their win over the White Sox, the Tigers also levelled series at 1-1 and it will be exciting to see if they can put up a similar show in their next series against Minnesota Twins.
In a game that was played on an extremely competitive note, Jim Leyland and company showed what they are really capable of. Chicago dominated the contest early on as they raced to a handsome 6-0 lead in the fifth inning and it seemed they will cruise to
an easy victory but the Tigers lifted their spirits just at the right time.
It was Miguel Cabrera who turned it around for the Tigers. The hard hitting third baseman unleashed himself in the sixth innings, hitting a massive 447 feet home run to left and Andy Dirks scored to reduce the deficit to 2-6.
Ryan Raburn also joined the party with an impressive home run to left centre which actually brought the Tigers back into the contest. With momentum on their side, Detroit’s batters took complete advantage of Chicago’s unforced errors and Austin Jackson’s
three run home runs ensured they had 8-6 lead at the end of the sixth.
"It doesn't matter when, where or how it looks. A win's a win," said Raburn. "It's great to come back from six down and pull it out."
"His lower back just tightened up, that's why we had to get him out of there," manager Jim Leyland said. "Right now it's lower back tightness. Just got to keep our fingers crossed on Jose. I think it's all right."
"This park's funny. It doesn't take long. You saw how quickly that eight-spot went up," Leyland said.
Raburn, Brennan Boesch and Jhonny Peralta made a wonderful play in the seventh to give the Tigers an impassable 10-6 lead. Although the White Sox finished the game on a strong note, they were unable to get past Tigers’ final score.
