Detroit Tigers beat Boston Red Sox 7-3 – MLB Update
Detroit Tigers finally managed to get a win at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts as they beat Boston Red Sox 7-3 on Thursday, May 31 in the finale of their four match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Max Scherzer and Delmon Young played a key role in deciding the outcome of the game. Scherzer pitched with great control and accuracy as he retried nine consecutive batters in six plus innings. Allowing just three runs and seven hits, he secured his third
straight victory to close out a strong month.
Delmon young homered to left in the eighth and he had an RBI single to right in the ninth. Prince Fielder also had a decent time to cap a three run third inning. For the Red Sox, Jarrod Saltalamacchia displayed some top quality driving in crucial runs for
his team.
"Going on the road sometimes is a good thing for the bonding aspect, but it will be nice to get back to Comerica (Park)" Scherzer said. "We didn't want to get swept."
"We just let him off the hook," Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said. "Heck, we had his pitch count up in the 80s after four innings and we were having good at-bats. Just kind of let it slip away."
"I got back to playing my game tonight on the bases," Quintin Berry said.
Jim Leyland and company have experienced a huge dip in their form after making an impressive start to the season. They were 9-3 in their first 12 games of the season. However, having lost 24 of their last 39 games, it seems the Tigers need to work on some
of the weaker areas of their game play to change the course of their destiny.
The victory will be of great importance for the Tigers who were outplayed in the opening three games of the series. With their win in fourth game on Thursday’s evening, they have now improved their record to 24-27 and it will be interesting to see if they
can cross the .500 percentage mark before the All Star Break.
