Detroit Tigers beat Chicago White Sox 8-5 – MLB news
Detroit Tigers had a great time on the field as they secured a comfortable 8-5 win against the Chicago White Sox at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan on Wednesday, July 10 in Game 2 of their three match series of the 2013 Major League Baseball regular season.
With their win, the Tigers also managed to stay alive in the series against their arch rivals.
Tigers were humiliated by the White Sox 4-11 in the opener and a lot of credit should be given to them for showing excellent fighting skills and determination in Game 2 to take the series in to the finale. It will be interesting to see if the Tigers can
put up another similar performance in the finale to consolidate their position at the top of the American League East Division standings table.
“A little bit shaky -- I guess too excited for everything that's going on with the fan votes,” Benoit said. “If I don't get there, I'm really just happy because everybody's voting for me.”
“It's probably the only thing I haven't accomplished in my career,” Benoit said. “I've been to the World Series last year, I've been to the playoffs. I've been a starter, I've been a reliever. I've done almost everything -- now an All-Star game wouldn't
be bad.”
“It's hard to put in perspective,” Porcello said. “That's a career season for the majority of guys in baseball, and that's only his first half.”
Starting pitcher Rick Porcello had a great time on the mound as he allowed just three hits and seven runs in six solid innings to grab his sixth win of the season. Striking out batters at regular intervals, he ensured the Tigers had complete control of the
situation.
Relief pitchers Drew Smyly and Joaquin Benoit also made useful contributions as they combined to toss up two scoreless innings of relief. Debutant Bruce Rondon looked a bit uncomfortable on the mound as he allowed two hits and two runs in just one inning.
Prince Fielder smacked a two run home run to right in the first inning to put Tigers on the board. Austin Jackson, Miguel Cabrera and Alex Avila also made their presence felt as they drove in crucial runs for their team.
