Detroit Tigers beat Kansas City Royals 7-5 – MLB News

Detroit Tigers continued to impress the critics as they secured another nail biting victory against the Kansas City Royals 7-5 at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan on Wednesday, April 24 in the opening game of their two match
series of the 2013 Major League Baseball regular season.
Tigers have produced some great performances this season but it will not be wrong to say that they are struggling for consistency. With 10 wins in 19 games, the Tigers have made a decent start to the season but Manager Jim Leyland
will know for sure that there is a lot of room for improvement. On many occasions the Tigers only managed to bite the dust despite being in a strong position. It will be interesting to see if Leyland and company can continue the good work in the next game
to earn an important home series sweep.
"I felt good out there ... and I got some balls to fall in," he said. "It wasn't fun out there in this weather, not at all, but the important thing was getting some hits and winning a game."
"Pitchers need to be able to feel the ball with their fingertips -- that's how they are able to manipulate it," Kansas City manager Ned Yost said. "When it is this cold, you can't do that. I'm sure that was a big part of Wade's
problem, but it didn't help Scherzer, either. Everyone has the same problems on a day like this."
Detroit raised the level of their game play considerably in closing stages of the last season. Not only did they claim the American League Central Division title but also went on to reach the World Series title. However, San Francisco
Giants shattered their dreams with a 4-0 sweep in the World Series. However, with more depth and variety in their batting and pitching lineup, the Tigers are now looking stronger than ever before. It will be great to see if Leyland and his men can finally
end the 14 years World Series draught.
Tigers’ starting pitcher Max Scherzer put up a finer performance allowing seven hits and five runs to grab his second win of the season. Relief pitcher Alberto Alburquerque, Josh Benoit and Jose Valverde combined to pitch four
scoreless innings to help the Tigers hold on to their slim lead.
