Detroit Tigers beat Minnesota Twins 10-6 – MLB Update
Detroit Tigers beat Minnesota Twins 10-6 at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Friday, May 25 in the opening game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Minnesota was provided with a perfect start by Brian Dozier who had an RBI double to deep left in the first inning to give his team an important 2-0 lead.
Brennan Boesch had an RBI double to his name to help the Tigers reduce Twins’ lead to 1-2 in the second inning. Alex Avila also displayed some top quality hitting skills, earning a double to deep right centre to give Tigers a 3-2 lead.
Ryan Raburn and Quintin Berry also made useful contributions in the fourth inning to let the Tigers take a handsome 6-2 lead. Prince Fielder had an RBI double in the seventh and Delmon Young ended the game strongly for his team, hitting a double to deep right in the seventh.
Starting pitcher Drew Smyly also had a great time on the mound as he pitched with great control and accuracy to win only for the second time this season. Smyly gave up four runs on six hits in five solid innings.
"Why am I busting my brain to figure out who I can juggle or put in there?" Leyland said. "That's really not the answer. This lineup is our team. This is who we're going with."
"This is our team," Leyland said. "This is what we've got. That's a little bit more what we're supposed to look like. Hopefully it gets contagious and we get on a little roll."
Tigers’ manager Jim Leyland will be delighted with Prince Fielder’s performance, who finally showed some signs of form with three hits. Fielder is the most expensive player in Tigers’ squad and the fans had great expectations from him before the start of the season.
Unfortunately for the Tigers, Fielder has not been able to fulfil his immense potential, which had damaged their win-loss record to 20-24 prior to this game. It will be interesting to see if the offence can produce runs on regular basis to help the Tigers move past the American League Central leaders Cleveland Indians.
