Detroit Tigers beat Minnesota Twins 8-4 in Game 2 - MLB Update
Detroit Tigers dominated the Minnesota Twins for an 8-4 win at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Tuesday, August 14 in second game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Tigers’ batting line-up made the most of scoring opportunities to stack a decent total on the board. The pitchers created all sorts of problems for Minnesota’s offence to lead the Tigers to a much needed win on Tuesday.
"Tonight was a little bit of a struggle at times, but we ended up working together and pulling it out," Doug Fister said. "We showed when there's a couple mishaps or whatever we can still stick together and play. We still got the things done that we need
to get done to pull out a team win."
Jhonny Peralta earned an RBI single to centre in the first inning to put Detroit on the board. Catcher Gerald Laird tripled to deep right in the second and Austin Jackson added a double to deep right-centre in the second to extend the lead to 4-0.
Andy Dirks broke the tie with a home-run to right in the sixth inning. Third baseman Miguel Cabrera continued his stunning hitting form as he drove in two crucial runs in the seventh and the ninth. Delmon Young reached second base safely on a throwing to
end the game on a bright note for Tigers.
"He'll have five more with 100 unless he gets hurt," manager Jim Leyland said of Cabrera. "He can hit the ball 450 feet to 500 feet, and he can hit it over the first baseman's head or down the left-field line. Just a great hitter."
For the Twins, Josh Willingham displayed some top quality hitting skills as he connected for a three run home-run to left-centre in the third to level the score 4-4 but his effort went in vain as the Tigers bounced back to win the game.
Tigers’ starting pitcher Doug Fister pitched eight solid innings, allowing four runs on five hits to grab his seventh win of the season. Reliever Jose Valverde pitched the perfect ninth to hold off the Twins.
