Detroit Tigers beat Oakland Athletics 10-6 – MLB Update
Miguel Cabrera finally showed some signs of form as Detroit Tigers beat Oakland Athletics at O.co Coliseum in Oakland, California on Thursday, May 10 in the opening game of their four match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Manager Jim Leyland will be very pleased to see Cabrera getting out of a bad slump on Thursday evening. Tigers’ third baseman had a four hits outing and two of those hits came in Tigers’ eight-run third innings.
Andy Dirks, Prince Fielder, Alex Avila and Delmon Young also made useful contributions in hitting department of the game. Max Scherzer got his second win of the season, giving up just two runs and five hits in six-plus innings. Striking out nine, he snapped
his losing streak in an emphatic fashion.
"In this game of baseball, you take your ups and downs and just kind of go with it and try to stay level-headed the whole time," Former Tiger Brandon Inge said. "Honestly, by no means am I trying to hit grand slams. It just happens sometimes. I'm just trying
to have fun. That's what kind of usually makes things go your way. This group of guys makes it easy."
"My swing was not functioning," Cabrera said. "Last month and this month we tried to figure out what was going on. Hopefully, we figured it out."
The Tigers will be very pleased to get over the .500 win percentage mark. After making a strong start to the season, it seemed the Tigers were losing their way. Their win against the Athletics was their 16th of the season and they have lost almost
similar number of games.
Considering the amount of money General Manager Dave Dombrowski spent to buy players, the fans were expecting the team to give results on consistent basis but that has not turned out to be the case so far.
Prince Fielder, who was signed for the fourth largest history in MLB, has not been able to live to his immense potential. He will have to raise the level of his game play to let the reigning American League Central Division Champions make it to the playoffs.
