Detroit Tigers beat Seattle Mariners 6-2 – MLB News
Detroit Tigers secured a comfortable win against the Seattle Mariners 6-2 at Safeco Field in Seattle Washington on Tuesday, April 16 in the opening game of their three match series of the 2013 Major League Baseball regular season.
Tigers dominated the Mariners right from the start of the contest. The pitching rotation was absolutely dominants. Starting pitcher Doug Fister led from the front as he created all sorts of problems for the Mariners’ batting lineup. Allowing just four hits
and two runs in seven solid innings, Fister played a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash. Striking out batters at regular intervals, he did not let the opposition settle down.
"That's a hard spot to hit the ball out and he did it with ease," Fister said. "That guy is such a special hitter."
"We're just feeding off each other. Everybody's trying to go up and have good at-bats and let the results take care of themselves," Jackson said.
"I thought we hit very well," Detroit manager Jim Leyland said. "We took advantage of a couple of breaks and shut them down good."
Relief pitchers Albert Alburquerque and Joaquin Benoit also made useful contributions as they combined to toss up two perfect innings to help the Tigers hold on to their four run lead. For the Mariners, starter Aaron Haran paid the ultimate price for his
errors on the mound as he allowed seven hits in just five innings to take his first loss of the season. Reliever Bobby LaFromboise also struggled control his fastball and curveballs giving up two runs on two hits in just one inning of relief.
2013 American League Most Valuable Player Miguel Cabrera continued his excellent form as he singled to left in the first inning to put his side on the board. Cabrera smacked a two run home run in the fifth inning and earned an RBI single to left in the seventh
to help the Tigers come back from behind to claim a two run lead. Austin Jackson and Torii Hunter also made valuable contributions as Jim Leyland and company ended the game on a strong note.
