Detroit Tigers beat Texas Rangers 3-2 – MLB Update
Detroit Tigers restored some of their lost pride after beating Texas Rangers 3-2 in a thrilling encounter at the Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan on Saturday, April 21.
Justin Verlander earned his second win of the season as he allowed just one run on four hits in six innings. Jose Valverde did a great job as a reliever. Brennan Boesch and Prince Fielder made useful contributions with the bat to help the Tigers come back from behind to snatch a victory.
The Rangers, who have an astonishing 12-3 win-loss record this season, will be hoping to end the series on a high note in the finale.
"I thought he was outstanding tonight. That's a championship team, and it is a championship team that's hot, but he did a tremendous job," said Leyland, the Tigers' manager. "His limit was going to be 120, after what he did the other day."
"I've never seen a team as aggressive as they are right now -- at the plate, on the bases, everything. They've got a great lineup, and they are locked in, so they are trying to kill every pitch," Verlander said. "They feel good about themselves, and they are going after everything."
The Tigers made the most of available opportunities in third game to keep the series alive. Rangers are leading 2-1 at the moment. In the opening game, they humiliated the Tigers to secure a comfortable 10-3 win.
Tigers’ pitching lineup struggled to cope with the pressure and they paid the ultimate price. Similar pattern of play was observed in the following game as well and the Rangers had another ten-run outing to beat the Tigers by four runs.
Manager Jim Leyland and General Manager Dave Dombrowski will be pleased with the way the team fought back in an absolute nail biter on Saturday evening to give Tigers’ fans something to cheer about. Without a shadow of a doubt, Detroit is one of the strongest teams in Major League Baseball.
However, consistency is going to be the key for them if they to progress to the World Series finals. It will be interesting to see if the Tigers can perform on consistent basis throughout the season to make their dreams to come true.
