Detroit Tigers beat Toronto Blue Jays 7-3 – MLB News
Detroit Tigers secured a comfortable 7-3 win against the Toronto Blue Jays at Comerica Park in Detroit Michigan on Tuesday, April 9 in the opening game of the three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season. With their win the Tigers
also improved their season win-loss record to 4-3.
Jim Leyland and company made the most of available opportunities in a game that proved to be completely one sided. Credit should be given to the Tigers for using the home condition superbly and executing their game plan to perfection. Without a shadow of
a doubt, the Tigers have some of the best pitching and hitting talent in their line-up.
For the Tigers, it’s the matter of converting that talent into performances. Leyland and his men did exactly that in the opener to make quick work of their American League rivals. It will be interesting to see if the Tigers can continue in their upcoming
games to grab the first place on the American League Central Division standings table.
"He's the best right-handed hitter I've ever seen," Tigers’ newcomer Torii Hunter said. "I've only been here 15-16 years in the major leagues, but I tell you, this guy's probably one of the best right-handed hitters I've ever seen. (Albert) Pujols is pretty
good, saw him the last decade or so, but Cabrera is the best hitter I've ever seen."
"He throws his off-speed pitch when he's behind in the count. Guys who can do that are awful tough," Blue Jays’ manager John Gibbons said. "He did a nice job. He held us in check and went deep into the game for them."
Blue Jays on the other hand made too many errors and paid the ultimate price. The batting line-up in particular looked completely out of sorts. Blue Jays will be looking to turn things around in Game 2 to keep the series alive.
Tigers’ starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez showed the stuff he is capable of as he allowed just two runs in seven innings to grab his first win of the season. His counterpart from Toronto Brandon Morrow suffered his first loss of the year after allowing nine
hits and five runs in just three plus innings.
