Detroit Tigers beaten by Chicago Cubs 3-4 – MLB Update
Detroit Tigers were beaten by Chicago Cubs 3-4 at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois on Tuesday, June 12 in the opening game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
The Tigers will be extremely disappointed to lose to a team that has found it extremely hard to find their right pitching and hitting combinations this season.
The Cubs have managed to win just 21 out of 61 games. Manager Jim Leyland and company will be will be feeling very bad about themselves right now and it will be interesting to see if the Tigers can come up with a decent game plan in their upcoming games
to change the course of their destiny.
Darwin Barney had an excellent time with the bat for Chicago with three RBI’s. Making the most of available scoring opportunities, the second baseman grounded out to shortstop to score the first run for his team. Barney doubled to deep left in the sixth
inning to extend Cubs’ lead to 3-0.
Ramon Santiago showed great courage and fighting abilities as he singled to right centre in the seventh inning to bring the Tigers back into the contest. Austin Jackson’s RBI in the seventh inning levelled score at 3-3 as the match entered a very interesting
phase.
"It's just nice to get the breaks," Cubs manager Dale Sveum said, "and then a lot of times you'll get errors or miscues by the way you run the bases."
"It's kind of hard," said Peralta. "When that situation happens, obviously I don't feel good about what happened. I tried to make it the best I could do."
"I knew for a fact the guy was out at first base, because there's no way that his body came off the bag with the ball not in his glove," Coke said. "There's no way. He's pushing off of the bag to get to the ball."
However, the star of the show was Starlin Castro who drove in a tie breaking run in the eighth inning to seal a memorable win for the Cubs. Tigers’ relief pitcher Phil Coke took his third loss of the season and shortstop Jhonny Peralta made two throwing
errors.
