Detroit Tigers beaten by Houston Astros 5-7 - MLB News
Detroit Tigers were beaten by the Houston Astros 5-7 at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan on Wednesday, May 15 in the finale of their three match series of the 2013 Major League Baseball regular season.
After securing comfortable wins in first two games of the series, the Tigers were looking to continue the good work to earn another incredible home series sweep but the Astros had other ideas. Despite having the momentum on their side the Tigers were unable
to find winning ways on Wednesday and the Astros lived up to the expectations for short while, outclassing their opponents to avoid an embarrassing series sweep.
"I just knew if he hit it out there, I'd have to get a good bead on it," Barnes said. "Just try to get under it and not stop until the catch was made."
"It's depressing," Leyland said. "If I had seen any signs that he was going to throw the ball over the plate, I would have left him in. I didn't really want (Phil) Coke against a switch-hitter."
"Sometimes we pitch good but we don't hit. Sometimes we hit but we don't pitch good. Sometimes we put it together like today," Corporan said. "We've been scoring some runs. It takes things like this to turn around some things."
Tigers’ Manager Jim Leyland will be extremely disappointed with the outcome of the clash. With home conditions working in their favour, Detroit was certainly the favourite to emerge victorious but that did not turn out to be the case. Showing excellent fighting
skills, determination and ability to handle pressure, the Astros showed no signs of nerves to prevail in a thrilling encounter at Comerica Park. It will be interesting to see if they can continue the good work in their upcoming games to have any chance of
making it to the post season.
Starting pitcher Max Scherzer had a horrible time on the mound as he allowed five hits and five runs in seven innings. Although he struck out batters at regular intervals, Scherzer could not stop the flow of runs. Relief pitcher Alberto Alburquerque took
his first loss of the season after he allowed the tie breaking run in just 0.1 inning of relief.
