Detroit Tigers beaten by Kansas City Royals 2-4 – MLB Update
Detroit Tigers fell to the Kansas City Royals 2-4 at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri on Tuesday, October 2 in second game of their three match series.
Third baseman Miguel Cabrera had another decent outing as he singled to centre in the third inning to put Tigers 2-1 ahead but the Royals bounced back strongly in fifth and the eighth to claim a deserving victory.
"You know, he writes the lineup and I do what he wants," Cabrera said after the American League Central champion Tigers lost 4-2 to the Royals. "I play ball. He's the manager, he's the boss. So whatever he wants to do, we're going to do. I play for the manager."
"I've not made the decision, but I will. I'm going to think about it tonight. I'm not exactly sure what I'm going to do," Manager Jim Leyland said is a post game interview. "If he wants to play, then he'll play."
After hammering the Royals in first game of the series, Manager Jim Leyland was expecting the Tigers to continue their good work in Game 2 but that did not turn out to be the case. Inconsistency has remained the biggest problem for the Tigers this season
and it could cost them a place in the World Series finals.
Despite having some of the best hitters in their batting line-up, the Tigers have not been able to score runs on regular basis this season. It will be interesting to see if they can turn the tables on their American League Central Division rivals in the
finale to end the season on a winning note.
Starting pitcher Doug Fister took his 10th loss of the season after he allowed seven hits and three runs in just over four innings. Fister has given impressive results since returning from the Disable List. Surely, he will be looking to put things
back on track on his next appearance.
Relief pitchers Luke Putkonen, Darin Downs and Brayan Villarreal combined to give just one run in three plus solid innings but the Royals held on to their lead comfortably to level the series 1-1.
