Detroit Tigers beaten by Texas Rangers 5-7 – MLB Update
Detroit Tigers were beaten by Texas Rangers 5-7 in a thrilling encounter at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Texas on Tuesday, June 26 in the second game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Tigers’ first baseman Prince Fielder, who is on the fourth largest contract in history of the game, had an excellent outing as he doubled to left centre in the first inning to help his team take a crucial 2-0 lead. Ian Kinsler made the most of scoring opportunities
as he homered to left in the first inning to help the Rangers reduce the deficit to 1-2.
Fielder homered to left in the fourth inning as the Tigers restored their two run lead but the Rangers did not give up. Showing great determination, character and composure, they bounced back strongly to secure an impressive victory.
The offence put up another power show on Tuesday afternoon to help the Rangers level series 1-1. Michael Young tripled to deep left and Nelson Cruz singled to right in the fourth to level score 3-3. Yorvit Torrealba and Brandon Snyder combined to put Texas
5-3 ahead in the fourth.
Josh Hamilton homered to centre in the seventh as the Rangers took complete control of the situation. Starting pitcher Yu Darvish struck out 10 in seven solid innings for his 10th win of the season.
"It seemed like the longer the game went, the better he got," manager Ron Washington said. "He was trying to get rhythm again those first few innings. They put some runs on the board, but we came back and answered, and he continued to pound the strike zone."
"We did a decent job against Darvish. If you can get five runs off him you're doing pretty well," Tigers manager Jim Leyland said. "He has good secondary pitches. He looks like a breaking-ball pitcher."
With an impressive 46-29 record, Texas Rangers are at the top of American League West Division standings table and credit must be given to them for their consistency. It will be interesting to see if they can make it to the playoffs and continue on to a
good post-season performance.
