Detroit Tigers bounce back to down Los Angeles Angels 7-2 – MLB Update
Detroit Tigers showed great determination, character and fighting spirits as they humiliated the Los Angeles Angels 7-2 at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan on Wednesday, July 18 in third game of their four match series.
Delmon Young made a useful contribution with the bat as he singled to right to put the Tigers on the board. Ryan Raburn, Prince Fielder and Miguel Cabrera continued to apply pressure on Angels’ struggling rotation as the Tigers extended their lead to 5-1
in the second.
Starting pitcher Doug Fister snapped his losing streak in great style, pitching eight effective innings. Allowing just two hits and a run with season high ten strike-outs, he lifted the Tigers to a much needed win.
"Any time you take a hit or an injury, it's difficult to deal with," said Doug Fister in a post game interview. "But at the same time, it's what makes you stronger, how you can mentally climb through something."
"I think it was just an anomaly," said Angels’ starter C.J. Wilson after giving up season high seven runs and eight hits over six innings. "They hit a lot of grounders in the right spots, and a couple balls that landed just in front of our outfielders."
Credit should be given to the Tigers for making a strong come back after receiving a 13-0 hammering from the Angels in their previous meeting. Jim Leyland and company edged their opponents in series opener but they were unable to live to their immense potential
in Game 2.
Tigers’ win against one of the strongest teams in the American League on Wednesday will certainly help them build on some much needed confidence. The team will be looking to carry their winning momentum forward to compete for a possible post-season spot.
They have shown us glimpses of brilliance now and then since the start of 2012 season but inconsistency has halted their progress on several occasions.
It will be interesting to see if they can maintain their excellent form over the next few weeks to have any chance of replacing the Chicago White Sox at the top of the AL Central Division standings.
